Meet Dessa Rogers, a 1998 graduate of the Randolph Technical Career Center (RTCC) and now a Nurse Manager in the medical surgical unit at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT.
Dessa graduated from the Technical Health Careers program at RTCC, and was not only able to find a job in her chosen field, but also one with room for advancement.
"The Technical Health Careers program was a great fit for me," Dessa said, "because allowed me to work in my chosen field while I was still taking classes. In that way, the program helped me find out what the nursing field was all about, in real life. Being able to take classes and work in a medical environment at the same time helped make me feel grounded about my decision to become a nurse."
As a Nurse Manager, Dessa is responsible for managing 45 staff members. She also handles two clinical shifts per month on the unit, and is in charge of staffing, implementing unit changes, and educating members of her staff.
"I enjoy what I do right now," she said, "but I also plan to go back to school to get my bachelor’s degree. My end goal is to obtain my nurse practitioner’s license and keep advancing in my career."
