Meet Carol McNair.

Carol Amico McNair has joined the middle school faculty at RUHS as the new 8th Grade Math teacher.  This is Carol’s 28th year in education.

Carol grew up in Vermont, attended South Burlington High School, and earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Vermont.  She has worked for the Vermont Department of Education as a math assessment consultant; she’s been an editor and contributor to several math publications; and she was a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.  Carol is excited about working in a school that values project-based learning.  “I feel it is important for students to see how what they’re learning in the classroom can be applied in the ‘real world’.”

“Although I have taught students in grades 3-8,” she said, “I have taught middle school for most of my career. I find teaching students who are grappling with who they are and who they want to become very rewarding, and I feel it is important to create opportunities for students of this age to feel confident socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. To that end, I strive to provide students with the structure of a safe and supportive environment where challenges are presented; where risks can be taken; where interests can be explored; and where students can experience success and the feeling that comes from perseverance, hard work, and determination.”

Carol lives in Waterbury Center with her husband and loving pets.  She enjoys gardening, traveling, reading, investigating new apps, and walking on the beach.  She is looking forward to collaborating with her new colleagues and getting to know the greater Randolph community!
