New York Times Publishes Top 20 Fields for Internships

The NY Times has published the top 20 fields for internships, and RTCC's 12 programs are all represented on the list. According to RTCC director Jason Gingold, "our numerous relationships with work based learning community sites offer our students the opportunity to gain valuable experience."

New York Times, Sunday 2/5/17

This is high season for securing a summer internship, an essential talent pipeline for employers and a steppingstone for students.  But before you send in that résumé, take a good hard look at what’s on it.

“Employers are being a lot more specific about the skills they expect from interns,” says Scott Bittle, a spokesman at Burning Glass Technologies, a research company that visits more than 40,000 websites a day to collect employer postings for internships. For example, students are expected to show up versed in particular software. But the top crossover skill: project management, which requires people skills.

Burning Glass’s latest report, released on Feb. 5, includes the top fields for internships according to the number of online postings from September 2015 to October 2016, as well as the five most in-demand “skills” (that is, experience gained on the job or in the classroom).
