RU Bowling Heads To State Championships

This past Saturday March 4th the Randolph Union High School bowling team headed north to Twin City Lanes in Barre, Vermont for the state team tournament. Coaches Karen Warner and John Hartman selected eight of their top varsity bowlers to represent Randolph Union and the Vermont High School State Championships including: senior CJ Philbrick; juniors Kolby Carpenter, Sheyenne Miller & Shelby Doyle; sophomores Madison DeJoinville, Jarid Wheeler & Logan Lumbra; and freshmen Adam Messier & Joseph Warner.

Randolph Union entered the tournament as the #4 seed based on their performance throughout the regular season, earning them a first round bye. RU stayed warm while Windsor High School battled against Brattleboro Union High School & while Hartford High School rolled against Oxbow High School in a best 4-of-7 game series. In the quarterfinals, RU rolled against #5 seeded Lyndon Institute Vikings, who edged out RU in both sets of Baker matches during the regular season.  Regardless of their 2-0 regular season record, RU came out swinging and defeated Lyndon Institute in four straight games to move onto the semi-finals, with the test of rolling against the #1 seeded Slaters from Fair Haven. Even though RU didn’t get to move onto the finals, RU forced the match to seven games, a true testament of the young team's perseverance & fortitude against a much older, more experienced field.

Overall season awards were also distributed at the team tournament. Here, RU’s Joseph Warner earned the Freshman with the Highest Average title, ranked #1 among all freshman bowlers across the state. Other notables include RU’s Jarid Wheeler (earning the fourth highest average among all VT bowling sophomores), Logan Lumbra (earning the third highest average among all VT bowling sophomores), and Kolby Carpenter (earning the second highest average among all VT bowling juniors). Senior CJ Philbrick was selected to attend the Senior Classic as one of the top 10 senior bowlers in the state. He will be joined by 9 other Vermont seniors as they take on the top 10 senior bowlers from New Hampshire in a friendly intra-state match. Bowling begins at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 11th at Brattleboro Bowl.
