Free Summer Meals call 211 for information

Summer EBT Benefits are Coming!

Vermont is issuing Summer EBT benefits starting in June. Most children who are eligible will receive the $120 benefit automatically. Benefits can be used to buy food at grocery stores, farmer’s markets, and online where EBT cards are accepted.

The Vermont Department for Children and Families will send you a letter if your family will get the benefit automatically. If you already have an EBT card, the benefits will be added to that card.  If you need a replacement card, you can call 1-888-354-0012 (Option 7). If you think you qualify, but you do not receive a letter by July, please visit https://summerebt.vermont.gov/ to submit a short application. Summer EBT benefits do not affect your immigration status.

In addition to Summer EBT, children 18 and under can receive free meals at any open summer meal site. All children are invited to get summer meals, even if you do not qualify for Summer EBT. Call 2-1-1 or visit https://www.fns.usda.gov/summer/sitefinder starting in late June to find sites near you.

Orange Southwest School District will be participating in the summer meals program beginning June 22nd and ending August 14th. The meal box program will be stationed at Randolph Union Middle and High School with pick-ups on Thursdays between 12 and 1. Families may pick up five days of meals (breakfast and lunch) for their children aged 18 and under. The parent may pick up, or the guardian WITH the child(ren). There will also be daily meals on weekdays at the Randolph Recreation Center between 7:45 and 8:45 as well as between 11:30 and 12:30. Children 18 and under may pick up meals at the recreation center if they are not collecting meals from the meal box program. Please email Tammy Maxham for information and to sign up for the meal box program.

Families with EBT cards can visit Vermont State Parks for free!  Just show your EBT card at the park entrance and you and your household can enter for free.  Visit https://www.vermontparksforever.org/paf-pilot to learn more.

We are pleased to inform you that Orange Southwest Supervisory District has implemented a new program available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).

What does this mean for you and your children attending the school in the Orange Southwest Supervisory District?

Great news! All enrolled students of Orange Southwest Supervisory District are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each day of the school year for the next four years!!! Your child(ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application*.

We love feeding teachers, parents and guardians so if you choose to have a meal with us and are over 18 years of age, Breakfast is $3.50 per person and Lunch is $6.00.

Your kitchen staff  looks to continue to dedicate themselves to providing your child with the freshest products , more in house made meals, and additional variety for our growing students.

Middle School and High School students still have the option of purchasing a la carte snacks.  In order for Middle and High School Students to purchase à la Carte items they can use their prepaid debit meal accounts, or pay cash or Money orders or checks made payable to “OSSD.” will be credited to student accounts.

To pay using a debit or credit card visit “myschoolbucks.com” (link at the bottom of this page) to set up an account using the student district ID number. There will be a $5.00 fee charged for all checks that are returned for insufficient funds. Parents/students are expected to keep meal accounts up-to-date. Students may not charge ala carte items.

I appreciate communication from students, parents and guardians alike, as we strive to fill as many dietary needs that we are aware of, so if your child(ren) does not find options that fit their dietary needs, please do not hesitate to reach out.

* The district may still be requesting Household Income Forms from households with a student participating in the CEP; however, receipt of free breakfast and lunch meals does not depend on returning it. Completing the application is still necessary for other programs ( home heating , cable discount ) and may be used to determine if your household is eligible for these additional benefits.

If you have any questions about the food program, please contact us at 802-728-3309 extension 1109, or via email “wwalker@orangesouthwest.org”.
